June 6, 2006 " The Anti Diva - Carole Pope" I had a phone call from my friend Joe from IndieCan Music late Tuesday afternoon. He was interviewing Carole Pope who was in town briefly and asked if I was interested in meeting one of Canada's rock music icons... and oh ya, bring your camera. I grabbed the bag, dashed out the door with just enough time to make the trip down town to Super Sonics Productions in time for the scheduled interview at 4pm. Hmm, I don't remember the motorcycle handling so smoothly down the 427 and across the Gardner Expressway especially at 135 kph. I'd just parked the bike when Joe and Carole arrived. A quick meet and greet and we went up to the studios. A tiny, dimly lit sound room was ready for the interview with little room to maneuver around to set up for photos and definitely NOT large enough for the photographer, once the sound engineer arrived. However, a few quick clicks with the flash captured the moment for posterity.
I was quite surprised at how quiet and shy Ms Pope appeared in person, given her on stage performance and controversial subject matter. While the twenty minute interview was being conducted, I hung out with some of the office staff and plotted to capture at least a couple of more images. Fiona from "coordination" showed me a few empty recording rooms and we found one that was suitable to shoot images with Chris Harris (the boss), Carole and Joe. As soon as the sound room door opened, the plan was to "usher" the guest of honour around the corner into the adjacent recording room. She nearly escaped unscathed.
Fortunately Carole was cajoled into staying another few minutes. ( Casually blocking the exit may have helped as well. *evil laugh*)
C'mon guys, squeeze in a little close, she doesn't bite...
Carole P
Thanks Carole for being a good sport.
