Aug 1, 2006 "Here Comes The Bride" Saturday July 29, 2006 my niece Kristen was married for the second time.... to the same groom. Approximately three years ago she met her employer and future husband, Yusuf. In December 2004 Yusuf proposed and a few months later they were married in the Muslim faith's religious ceremony the Nikaah.
This union isn't officially recognized under Canadian Law and Kristen had wanted a big outdoor white wedding with all the trimmings, so they set a date for the "legal" celebrations. Weeks and months of searching, careful planning and every thing was at last arranged for a perfect summer wedding. However, she received MUCH more than she had bargained, in the form of one of the biggest torrential down pours of the season - only 45 minutes before the ceremony was scheduled at 5:00 pm. The romantic location mid the weeping willows by the pond was located several hundred yards from the house and was rendered sopping wet along with the threat of more rain.
A huge tent had been erected for dining and dancing later in the evening, but it became the venue for the ceremony as well.
The grounds were owned and graciously hosted by a long time family friend of Yusuf's.
My brother Bruce had spent the better portion of the week manicuring the enormous lawn, making everything perfect for his "little girl".
As the day progressed into evening, more rain saturated the lawn so bare feet and mud became the official attire for most guests as well as the catering staff.
The staff from A La Carte Kitchen, deserves kudos for service above and beyond the call of duty.
Not only did they provide a fabulous dinner, service and entertainment, one volunteer served as umbrella bearer to escort members of the wedding party from the house to the "alter".
There were a few brief periods of sun immediately following the ceremony which permitted some outdoor shots.
At one point, a rainbow managed to make an appearance.
Despite the adverse weather, a good time was had by all and made a very enjoyable occasion as well a unique, memorable story to pass down to future generations.
CONGRATULATIONS Kristen and Yusuf.
