Three, plus one, plus one,  equals "Seven"

A few nights a go I went to a local auction that was advertised in one of those flyers delivered  with the junk mail.

It was being held at a nearby recreation centre only a few minutes walk from home,

so there was nothing to lose except a few hours of my time.

I dragged along the girlie for company.

The items consisted of mainly furniture...... full bedroom sets, living room furniture, one of a kind

hand painted pieces and some art work.  It was the art that caught my eye.

Upon arrival,  we noticed some beautifully framed, limited edition prints by

Tom Thomson and Franklin Carmichael. ( Group of Seven )

This was not a typical auction.

The auctioneer began with the retail price of the item and continued to lower the price

until some one was prepared to bid.  As it turned out, if no one liked HIS prices, the audience was

free to offer a starting bid.

Unfortunately once that happened the auctioneer increased the next bid by hundreds of

dollars on the big ticket items.  He soon learned that he was dealing with a "cheap" crowd.

There were a few really good deals,  if I had been in the market for new living room or

bedroom furniture.  Could have had a chocolate brown leather  love seat for my office for $250,

but hesitation was my downfall.

I was tooooo slow in making a decision on some smaller oriental china items  and they were

snapped up in a hurry for only ten dollars.

After an hour or so, the girlie abandoned me and I sat patiently waiting for the Group of Seven  prints to come up.

Eventually they were presented in a "lot" and the auctioneer began at five hundred per PRINT.

No one was biting, so I heard an offer of 50 bucks called out.  DEAD SILENCE.....

Next thing I knew he called out 60 bucks and I shot up my hand.  No further offers, so as

the highest bidder I had my choice of as many prints as I wanted for 60 dollars each.

I picked out five and promptly phoned home for "free pick up and delivery"......haha.

Sooo now the family room has three new pieces of art

my "office" has one

and the last one was specifically for  the girlie.

But I decided that  it looked much better in the kitchen than her bedroom.

At least it's hanging directly opposite her place at the table so she can appreciate it...when she's home. hehe.
