To Grandma's House We Go

Grandma is getting on in years.... 88 in just a few short weeks, to be exact.

This afternoon after the girlie finished her part time job, we spontaneously decided to drop in for a visit.

Well ... after a confirmation phone call to ensure the old gal wasn't out to euchre, bowling,  the local seniors health group. etc.

She has recently being requesting family members  to put their name on items around the household

so there will be less hassle when the time arrives to divvy up the "goods",  so to speak.

If there's some thing she hasn't being using, she wants it out of the house -  NOW!

Sooooo, I laid claim to her Mother's tea cart, which now resides in my front hall.  I must say it's a  far better

home for it rather than a dark, damp corner of her overcrowded basement.

Amongst Gramma's possessions are two plates passed on by her mother and father in law.

Hmmm I noted,  these two items are officially antiques.

HEY, just like you Mom !!

(Good thing she's only five foot three  .......with a good sense of humour. *S*)

Mom has being trying to research the origin of the plates and determine their value

by writing down information on scraps of paper while scouring libraries for data.

So I thought a few photos might expedite her research via "the web".

"The Parson" was handed down by her own Mother. She recalls it hanging in her child hood home as an ornamental item..

"

This numbered  item was manufactured by Royal Doulton. However, the year has yet to be determined.

The item below was simply dubbed "the tropical", for obvious reasons, and was purchased by my paternal grandfather

long before emigrating to Canada in 1914. According the markings, Mom thinks it dates back to around 1790.

(Some thing for the Antiques Road Show, if and when they come to town.)

The house was shut up tight with the draperies drawn to keep out the heat ( and daylight) and I didn't want the flash reflecting off the

polished surfaces of the items, so Mom and the girlie sat outside overseeing the process

while I set up the plates in the backyard shade.

Ya'd  think me own Mudder  didn't trust me with her prized possessions. LOL

.

" is she done yet"?

Ummmm Mom ... where do you keep the super glue?  LMAO

Hehehe, now that got her attention........ <evil grin>

About 20 minutes later the plates were safely returned to the china cabinet,

Mom had "recovered" and all was back to normal.
