Birthday Boy

Saturday June 4th was the number one (  read "one and only" ) son's birthday so we all piled in the vehicle for the two hour drive to his abode in a more upscale student residence of  lovely downtown Peterborough.

We arrived around 1:20 in the afternoon to find that little had changed since the boy moved into his new accommodations  approximately one month ago.

(please continue to scroll down,  more to come ...  you might want to consider stopping for a drink or take a bathroom break....haha)

I must point out that upon arriving I didn't even recognize the son.

With a few ah hem, "extra pounds" and the new bleached blond hair (last visit it was blue)

I could have passed him on the street and not recognized him.

While we chatted with the roomies and met a household pet ( Jake the chameleon)  I had a reaaally good look at the son and yes even with the hair change and the extra weight, deep down he's still the same "lil" boy.  Awwwwwwwwwwwww.... lol

Jake provided some comic relief with his antics and cool, smooooth, colourful  personality....lol

With seven room mates sharing the house hold, a living room that appeared to be currently functioning as an extra dormitory and an overcrowded kitchen,  we decided to head off to a local Timmy's (Tim Horton Doughnuts for those non Canuks)  for a mid afternoon snack to hold us over until dinner hour.

While at Tim's,  I snapped a few images of the "kids" for posterity.

      .

After a light lunch of soup/bagel we wondered how to pass the balance of the day on a some what dull, cloudy afternoon and

realized that we were in the home of the famous Peterborough LIFT LOCKS ( the world's highest Hydraulic lift lock system) http://collections.ic.gc.ca/heirloom_series/volume5/208-209.htm

and headed over to play tourist.

A museum on site provided plenty of background info and period building equipment and machines.

Then it was outside  to have a closer view of the structure..

It appeared to be a quiet afternoon for boat traffic and with little warning the hydraulics were in motion.

We decided to wind our way up the stairs and through the tunnels to the upper platform for a different view.

S

Hmmm, city council really should check that clock tower  time. I'm pretty sure my watch said 4pm.

A quick family photo and then it was off to find a local eatery for dinner.

Several hours later, stomachs satiated with fine fair (an assortment of  ribs, wings shrimp, scallops, pasta, salads and roast beef)

and  happy glowing grins from celebratory libations

it was back to the house for a caffeine fix  and a cookies and cream cake......mmmmmm

The very thoughtful roomies also picked up a birthday cake to provide enough sugar high to last a week.

AA sleepy and  happy birthday boy was ready to call it a day, so we hugged good bye, then headed home .

Some one else was also a little tired after the day's activities....lol
