Woe de Toilet

Some thing about self renovation projects stinks.......and not just because it's a bathroom repair.

Here's the continuing saga in what should have been a week's reno.

But we should have known  in "home repair"  projects,  apply Murphy's Law.

The rotten  "hole" in the floor was fixed without a hitch

The new underlay took a while to nail down by hand, guaranteed never to move with some help from

heavy duty construction adhesive. But all in all, an easy job with a just a bit of cutting to fit.

The surface and seams were sanded smooth as a baby's bottom, and then a "just in case of leaks"

layer of  water proof sealer was applied to the wood. Followed by a thick bead of water proof caulking around the

entire perimeter of the room to prevent any potential problems in the future.

"Over kill"  I'm sure you're thinking about now,  but you only want to do this ONCE.

Time for the new flooring.  A paper template was traced in the

bathroom and then laid out on the kitchen floor to cut.  A pair of heavy duty scissors and

presto, DONE.

Roll up the floor, haul it back to the bathroom, carefully lay it out and tuck it neatly into the corners.

 WOW, an exact fit!!

The extra time spent making the "perfect"  template was well worth the effort.

This new no glue, heavy duty one piece flooring is a life saver.

Another thick bead of water proof caulking between the floor and the wall and

nothing is going to get past this baby.

Even Noah would be proud.

*pat on the back*

At LAST time for the new whiz bang Kohler porcelain.

Unfortunately the local supplier only stocks WHITE and "biscuit" is a special order....

what the  *@%*& .   Not  only THAT, tack on an additional two hundred bucks for the

off white shade.  Hmmm, Kohler's web site notes it as a standard colour, but over at

the Depot place,  in Kohler's own order catalog,  it's listed as a FULL colour item.

 Crap...

it had to match the rest of the fixtures, so just order the damn thing.

 Even if it's $ 700.00

Two weeks later, here it  sits, waiting to be installed.

A few minor purchases and adjustments to even out the height difference between

the new floor and the old plumbing and it should be ready for a christening.

W

Well, is sure does look purdy .... if a toilet can be described that way.

But there's  the small problem of reconnecting the water supply.

The old fitting isn't the same size so three tries later,  a new flexible

hose replaced the stainless water pipe. e

Here she sits in all her shiny new, crowning glory - the THRONE.

Ready for her coronation....shortly.

Almost looks too nice to use.  lol

Some how I don't think my behind is going to notice the difference.

Damn..... sitting and admiring the floor gave me time to peruse the rest of the room.

The one job of replacing the floor spawned another.

Of course the baseboard needs replaced..... not such a big deal.

Then there are few tiles that fell to the wayside as

collateral damage,  when the floor was ripped up next to the tub.

No problem, have a few of those stashed away in the basement for

safe keeping, from when the house was built.

However, while thoroughly inspecting my caulking job today, I stopped to investigate

the "uneven" surface in the paint on either side of the shower door.

A little chip with the exacto knife here.... and there.....

 began to grow....

           and grow.......

                    and grow ...

Hmmm....

maybe I should have left that tiny bubble in the surface alone.

Oh well,  a bit more sanding, a coat of rust proof paint on the metal corner beading,

a few layers of plaster, more sanding,

coat of primer and then matching oil base paint

should have that done in nooooo time........she said.

Well, winter IS coming and a little indoor project will keep me out of trouble........
